DNS Methods

You might be familiar with the "DNS Method" term, let's explain what that is.

DNS methods are used by sideloading communities to help reduce certificate blacklist issues. They are equipped with blocking out Apple servers that constantly track your device with the said certificate you attempt to use.

There are certain things you can and can't do. That can be explained below.

Can I restart my device whilst still using the DNS? What if my device dies? What if I need to install an update?

Restarting your device does not keep the DNS on, it's simple to know that. Once your phone is turned on, those seconds without WiFi/data not activated yet are Apple's abilities to "blacklist" you from the use of the said certificate. It's best to ALWAYS keep the said device on. In cases of installing a new update, you MUST turn on Airplane Mode before doing so, then allowing device to connect to internet afterwards.

Can I use a VPN whilst on the DNS?

Most VPNs available pause the DNS even while it's activated through your DNS settings. It's best to not enable one. There are certain ways to get around that, but it's more safer to just stick with the DNS.

Could I use any other DNS than the preferred one available?

Other DNS's have their own sets of configurations, modifications, but it's mostly preferred to stick with the one we at SamHub recommend. It's not something to constantly worry about, as multiple tests prove the recommended DNS available here works as it intends to.
